Fayetteville, Arkansas

*The following post was written in the summer of 2018. It failed to post, but I still wanted to get these pictures of this beautiful property out to anyone interested.*

A surprise is always nice. The weather is nice when you didn't expect it to be. The coffee is of higher quality than usual. And the environment is a vast improvement over what it has been. I'm spending the week with a friend in Fayetteville, Arkansas.Fayetteville is where the University of Arkansas is located and Bentonville (headquarters of Wal-Mart) is located in the same metropolitan area, about half an hour from where we currently are. She's here for a family reunion, which will be happening later in the week and I've tagged along. We're staying at her parent's house and she warned me that the house is amazing and I was going to love it, but such claims are often made about every shitty suburban neighborhood so I really didn't know what to expect, but I was wholly delighted by the place. It's an old farmhouse on a hill, surrounded by trees and in view of no other houses. The breeze through the wrap-around porch is better than the air conditioning inside. We've come out on the porch to work/write blogs and it couldn't be more pleasant.

This is exactly the sort of home that you want to see turned into a Bed and Breakfast some day. Though we can hear traffic in the distance, we're surrounded by trees and chirping birds. There's a winding driveway to the main road, though the road isn't visible from the front porch. I know we aren't far from civilization, but it certainly seems that we are. Some of the other buildings that were originally part of the farm have also been converted to housing. They're on the property and relatively close by, but you can't see them and it still feels like we're secluded far from the outside world. It's exactly the place you'd want to spend a week to relax.
